Vietnam – Service Learning Trip In Hoi An

Day 1: Da Nang Arrival – Hoi An

Welcome to Da Nang, you will be collected by our local guide at Da Nang Airport and transfer to hotel in Hoi An with 45 minutes driving for check in. The room is at your disposal from 14.00 onwards. Balance of the day as your leisure. Meals on your own. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Hoi An – Project Site With Learning Theme: Understanding the Challenges

After your breakfast at hotel, take a transfer to community where you will be starting the service-program.
It takes about 30 – 45 minutes to drive from Hoi An town.

Morning activities:

1. Village walk (from the parking area) and understand the village landscape and living settings
2. Arrive to Community Land restoration site, introduction about the challenges for sustainability and the solutions we are working with local community to address them
3. Hands-on activity: Vermi composting system establishment and operation

Lunch at site

Afternoon activities:

4. Hands-on activity (cont.): Vermi composting system establishment and operation (including collection of cow manure)
5. Hands-on activity: cutting grass for cows, understanding the connection within the closed-loop farming in the community

Dinner at site

Return to Hoi An town and overnight at your hotel in Hoi An.

Day 3: Hoi An – Project Site With Learning Theme: Regenerative Living Solutions

In the morning, after having breakfast at hotel, heading to project site (30 – 45 mins driving)

Morning activities:

1. Understanding the concept of zero waste and decentralised solid waste management system
2. Hands-on activity: Making multi-purposed cleaning solution from kitchen waste & making soaps from used cooking oil & making charcoal from used coffee grounds

Lunch at site

Afternoon activities:

3. Hands-on activity: Making bokashi bran with effective micro organisms for kitchen waste recycling and soil amendment
4. Hands-on activity: Taking care of existing agro-ecology system

Dinner at site

Return to Hoi An town and overnight at your hotel in Hoi An.

Day 4: Hoi An – Project Site With Learning Theme: Regenerative Agriculture Solutions

In the morning, after having breakfast at hotel, heading to project site (30 – 45 mins driving).

Morning activities:

1. Understanding the solution of Ecological tree nursery in sustainable rural development and agriculture
2. Hands-on activity: Working in village’s Ecological tree nursery: mixing the soil, nursing more trees, taking care of small trees

Lunch at site

Afternoon activities:

3. Hands-on activity: Tree and grass planting for regeneration

Dinner at site

Return to Hoi An town and overnight at your hotel in Hoi An.

Day 5: Hoi An – Project Site With Learning Theme: Cultural Preservation

In the morning, after having breakfast at hotel, heading to project site (30 – 45 mins driving).

Morning activities:

1. Understanding the roles of plants in people’s lives, Hands-on activity: Making traditional medicinal tea
2. Cooking with villagers: Use wild, locally produced and home-made ingredients for cooking in community

Lunch at site

Afternoon activity: Reflection of the program

Return to Hoi An town and have dinner at local restaurant.

Day 6: Hoi An – Coconut Jungle – Hoi An Town Walking Tour – Memories Show

In the morning, our guide and driver will pick you up at the hotel for heading to the Cam Thanh area – a magnificent water coconut palm forest about 5 kilometers southeast of Hoi An’s Old Town.

• You will board a basket boat to explore the coconut jungle while learning about the everyday operations of local fishermen and the village’s history. You can also make your beautiful gifts out of coconut leaves.
• Learn to paddle the unique Vietnamese bamboo basket boat and join in a basket boat rowing

Lunch at local house with traditional food.

In the afternoon, we take a stroll to visit Hoi An town, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site because of its unusually well-preserved ancient streets and homes. Set out to explore the quaint cobblestone streets of the town with the more than two-century-old Chinese houses. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Phung Hung Chinese-style trading house.

Hoi An Street Food Tour – Start at a local eatery to savor Hoi An’s signature white rose dumplings. Wander through a 250-year-old ancestral home, meeting the host and exploring his silver jewelry workshop. Then, enjoy local street food favorites like banh can, banh mi (Vietnamese baguette). Visit the bustling central market before ending with a bowl of Cao Lau or chicken rice.

Wrap your day with Hoi An Memories Show – a breathtaking outdoor performance that celebrates the town’s rich heritage and cultural identity. Through music, dance, and stunning visuals, it tells the story of Hoi An’s transformation from an ancient trading port to a symbol of resilience and harmony. This immersive show highlights the deep connections

Day 7: Hoi An – Transfer to Da Nang Departure

Today free time until transfer to Da Nang airport for departure flight. Room is at your disposal at noon. Lunch and dinner of your own arrangement. End of the trip and have a safe flight back home.
